In recent months Walmart has been enhancing its fulfillment capabilities, trialing autonomous delivery, working with intermediaries such as Cornershop in Canada, automating instore pickup services and expanding its grocery unlimited subscription program. By the end of 2019, Walmart plans to have grocery pickup available from 3,100 stores and same-day delivery from 1,600 stores, covering approximately 80% and 50% of the US population respectively.

Brands should review their available portfolio, product content and prices for their items on the Walmart.com platform, to take advantage of the extension of pickup services to new categories. Wider adoption of pickup points will create new waiting points instore, providing opportunities for new product placements or vending machines to drive impulse sales and generate shopper traffic.
